What happens when your iPhone crashes and has to be put into Recovery Mode? Jim Connelly has the story:
There have been a couple of times before where it has acted weird — the most major one being Safari spontaneously shutting down and returning the phone to the home screen. In those cases, and in this case, I’ve done what we’ve done to computers since time immemorial: I reset it.
And that’s when I got The Yellow Triangle Of Death.
The Yellow Triangle of Death is essentially, well, a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in the middle of it, below which is the following message:
“Please connect to iTunes.”
Your dojomaster encourages you to read the whole thing; not necessarily a happy ending, but recovery was possible (if not without some pain). Most importantly it lays out the steps you need to take:
- Connect to a computer and run iTunes
- Follow the instructions from iTunes to restore your iPhone to factory settings
- Re-sync to recover your bookmarks and contacts
- Re-enter the settings that are not synced
- Loudly curse Apple for not saving all user settings when synced
